Year of the Pig: Getting Ready

The calendar New Year also makes me think about celebrating Chinese New Years which we do in our house as well.  It's the Year of the Pig.  Robin, from the Chinese New Year blog sent along this cool moon phase calendar as a reminder.

As you probably know, each Chinese month (and year) starts on the new moon, and the middle of the month is a full moon.  With the attached pdf file you can see that the phases of the moon do not line up with our months, and why 1/1 is on February 18th this year.

Shepard's Software has a collection of free Educational Web Games.   Of interest is the Asian Geography collection of games.  You can earn the geography of Asia with these ten games. Features include speech, interactive maps, blurbs, and links for each country to get more information

AskAsia.org is a resource of the Asia Society. Founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd, the Society's mission is to strengthen mutual understanding between the United States and Asia in support of positive engagement between their societies and peoples.  It's tagline is "a K-12 resource for Asian Society."   The Southeast Asian Instructional Resources are not as deep as East Asia, but a few interestings items such as a unit on Rice Crops and Hmong Storycloths
