Jay Dedman is going to lead a video blogging workshop in New Orleans as part of the line up for the NTEN's NTC Day of Service 2008. (Disclosure: This is a paid gig I do to coordinate the event and have done for the past 7 years). The rest of the line up includes the installation of a wireless network project at the Community Center of St. Bernard. Led by some great folks from Cisco (they also donated the hardware too), a second team of nonprofit trainers be going to the Community Center of St. Bernard work one-on-one with residents who use the computer center there.
At the end of the day, noted Video blogger and author Jay Dedman will host a Hands-On Videoblogging Workshop for nonprofit organizations at NonProfit Central, 1824 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd in New Orleans at 2PM on March 19. (It was so popular they had to do it at another venue)
As readers of this blog know, videoblogging is an effective way for nonprofits to build awareness of their organization’s work not just by telling what they do, but by showing it. The Videoblogging Workshop for Nonprofits will cover the practical aspects of setting up a blog, arranging for video hosting, editing and compressing video for the web, publishing and distributing content, publicizing the blog, and connecting with the appropriate audience. Participants are asked to bring their laptop computer and video camera so that they can learn on their own equipment.
I decided to donate my Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2 digital video camera because I wasn't using it as much as I thought. I was going to sell it on Ebay, (I'm not exactly an on paper billionaire) but figured if we gave it away to one of the organizations as a little competition - perhaps we can see ongoing video blog coverage. If you're a New Orleans-based nonprofit and you want to attend and try to win the camera, send an email (150 words or less) on how your organization would benefit from the camera and plans for using it to [email protected] before 5:00 PM tomorrow. All entries will entered into a drawing to win a complimentary copy of Jay's book, "Videoblogging."
Workshop attendees should RSVP by email to [email protected] on or before Monday, March 17. Reservations should include the participant’s name, phone number and nonprofit organization affiliation. For more information about the Hands On Videoblogging Workshop, please phone the Community Center of St Bernard at 504-281-2512 or visit www.ccstb.org.
