Photo from the first Day of Service that Cheryl and I coordinated in Orlando 2002 with Joel Remegio. We even won the Swimming Upstream Award!
For the past 7 years, one of my gigs has been to organize the Day of Service for NTEN's NTC. I"m really excited - we have over 60 volunteers (last I checked) who will giving back to the local New Orleans nonprofit community - from strategic consults to installing a wireless network on site at the Community Center for St. Bernard. Video blogger Jay Dedman is also offering a video blogging workshop (and my old video camera is going to get a new home with some lucky New Orleans Nonprofit that pledges to video blog regularly after we leave.)
As is tradition, on Tuesday night Cheryl Hanback and I organize a dinner the night before for DOS volunteers and anyone else who would like to come. It usually turns out to be quite a few people and a great way to meet new NTENers or connect up with old friends.
The restaurant, The Praline Connection (www.pralineconnection.com) is at a local favorite with lots of vegetarian options and reasonably priced items. It is about a mile from the hotel in the French Quarter so a lovely walk, Trolley or cab ride.
Meet up at the NTEN registration desk between 5:45 and 6 or just come on over to the restaurant. We have reservations for 6:30 so you can either go out afterwards or go back to the hotel so you can be bright and shiny on Wednesday at 8 a.m. in the Ambassador room to connect with your agency.
