One of my longtime flickr contacts, an artist named Darlene, just sent me a note that when her paycheck arrives, 10% is going to the Sharing Foundation. OMG, I can't believe this generosity. So, in return, I'm plugging her cause - Life in Africa and this cause.
Is this an example of the virtual gift economy?
On her portfolio site she shares a life vow called Threads of Empathy
As part of a life-vow I have made which is at the basis of much of my art, I donate 10% of my income from all art sales to help provide opportunity and education in developing countries. Donations thus far have focused mainly on library and school construction projects through various organizations.
Mata, over at Blogher, wrote a terrific post called "Three Ways you can simply change the world for the better." And, she has volunteered to help me with my Sharing Foundation America's Giving Challenge. Thank you so much!
