A colleague, Celeste, recently pinged me with a request. Can anyone help her?
Hello. I am doing some research for a friend who is working for a wonderful, large nonprofit that serves and engages youth. We are looking for examples of youth blogging projects, i.e., cases where the organization encouraged, supported, and/or facilitated the teens in blogging (presumably as part of the organization's mission and goals, e.g., to help youth learn leadership skills, literacy skills, build community, etc.). We are also interested in other kinds of teen social networking under the auspices of a nonprofit or other "social sector" kind of organization.
I haven't Googled this area yet, but I think it will be a bit of a challenge, as the teens' subject matter could be anything--and I'm not quite sure how to find the "channel" or "platform" the organization would have provided. I thought I'd start with you. If you are inclined to post a query to your readers, I would also be grateful ...
Marshall Kirkpatrick was on the initial query and he replied with:
http://www.youthnoise.com/
http://www.netsquared.org
http://ypulse.com (some coverage of the topic there - see
http://snipurl.com/1qexe for example)
then you might look at variations on this query

I'd also add:

Global Kids (see web site and blog)
Taking it Global
MacArthur Spotlight Blog: Digital Youth Discuss Digital Media
What examples do you know about? What other blogs are writing about digital media and youth or organization's sponsoring projects? Please let me know by dropping a comment to this post? Thanks
We're in the process of developing strategies for this, starting with our study abroad blogging pilot this fall. We also host a Serbian youth program that we are planning to introduce to Vox. I'd be happy to be in touch with your friend. I'm sure we could share some ideas with each other.
