Today I got an email about Mypacis - a word play on myspace and peace? Here's the description
The site is an open source, integrated and localized social network which "promotes peace by linking people", putting Web 2.0 at the service of freedom of speech. We can say MyPacis.com is a social network with a social mission. Considering the nature of the site, we relay on word of mouth to reach users who can benefit from it. NGOs, volunteers and people interested in promoting peace and freedom can use the site to get to
know each other and start co-operating.Tools are localized in Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Thai, Farsi, etc. languages and not just the usual ones, such as English and German. We want to bring people together, make easier to discuss what matters for
them and stand for freedom of speech everywhere in the world, especially in Eastern Europe and Asia.It would be great to know what you and your blog readers think about this. Can Web 2.0 promote real understanding among people and bypass censorship? Will people decide to use technology to co-operate? Can automatic translation tools, social bookmarks, news digging, etc. make communication easier? How can online blogging tools etc. and offline communication be bridged, to reach more people?
Your support can make a difference, so MyPacis.com mission to promote peace by linking people can be successfully implemented at the advantage of our users.
A couple of bits and pieces to blog and possibly check out later.
Online Presentations: This came via Britt Bravo - a link to a post from Mashable about "powerpont for the web."
Discussion Aggregator: I'm not quite sure what that means, but via Marshall Kirkpatrick I learned about Pibb. Here's the link.
Social Search: Spock, a search engine that organizes information about people. I went ego surfing and it turned up my myspace profile information.
Have you reviewed http://www.zooped.com social network yet?

Hey Beth,
Thanks for the heads-up about Mypacis.com. We love to hear about new entrants to the "social networking for social good" space. We're all in this together, and it's exciting to see how 2.0 tools are being used for higher purposes.
Cheers,
Rebecca
