I just read mentions of Threads from three different people - Stephen Downes, Alan Levine, and Tim Lauer - and had to experiment. It's better if you view the slide show in its full size here.
Threads is an online media album that allows people to make audio or text comments and embed those comments on the Slide Show. What a great way to tell a shared story! Read Alan Levine's post for an excellent introduction and examples.
I've been fooling around with Facebook and since you can't view a group or profile (unless you have a Facebook) account, I decided to use this application to spark a discussion about what we are learning about using Facebook for nonprofits. So, I started the NpTech Group on Facebook for that purpose! You can also leave a comment in the slide show or set one up yourself. It's really easy to do.
I've been interested in the whole concept of multmedia shared knowledge creation, but the tools and learning curve got in the way. This application makes it so easy to create slide shows, that maybe this will pave the way for more peer learning in multimedia.
Beth - this looks really exciting, am adding it to my list to experiment with this summer. Can see some really useful ideas for this with some of my groups.
Thanks for finding it and explaining it in such a clear way.

Hey Beth,
Funny, I tried finding the NPTech Group and when that didn't work, I tried to find you to get to the group and I wasn't allowed to add you as my friend. So sad. Can you help? Rachel
