I'm the session designer for the video geekout session at NTC and today is the deadline for the outline submission. I got a couple of rock stars from the video blogging community with us - Jay Dedman, Ryan Hodson, Jonny Goldstein, Andy Carvin, and Robyn Tippins to lead the session. It's been fun to bounce ideas back and forth with Jay and everyone, particularly in light of their extensive experience teaching folks video skills.
The learning goals are:
- To introduce the concept of video blogging as a way to document or share stories of a nonprofit's programs or work
- To provide hands-on entry-level skills in conceiving, shooting, editing, and publishing a simple video to a blog
- To answer any questions or point to additional how-to resources
- To help people make connections to other people who are interested in doing this work to give/receive peer support
I wanted to begin with viewing and debriefing some examples of video blogs by nonprofit or social change causes. These examples might include stories about clients or users of a nonprofit's programs, rich media documentation, social reporting at a conference, or other example. I have no idea what these examples might be just now ...
So I was delighted to pop by Nancy White's blog where she points to:
Steven Parker is doing some cool stuff with video. Not only on his blog, Network Learning, but embedded into a wiki. Check out his Group Learning page where he walks us through how to facilitate a tech learning session! The rest of the wiki is also a great resource for those looking to integrate tech into learning -- or anything else. The stuff has "good bones" to be applied in varied settings.
This is an excellent example of "rich media" documentation.

Thanks Beth, I look forward to reading your blog.
For context.
The 'rich media' session format inspired by the http://flnw.wikispaces.com unconference.

Jonny,
Thanks for the pointer. What do you think makes this video compelling? I emailed them via YouTube for an interview.
