Meet Alfredo, Regina, and Ty. These are the characters in the Community Organizing Toolkit (BETA SITE). The Toolkit is a set of resources that supports face-to-face training for residents and community leaders. The computer-based component (the game) is used to introduce concepts, prompt discussion, and allow residents to practice skills in a safe, non-threatening environment. The initial focus is to teach Doorknocking, a local organizing technique.
Here's the beta launch of the game. It hard to evaluate without the face-to-face training, but the "game" takes you through the skills/knowledge needed for an effective campaign and at the end of each step, you play a "game." For the step, you are asked to evaluate whether the door knocker did a good welcome pitch to get in the door.
This makes learning interactive and fun .. can't wait to see the presentation at the Serious Games Conference next week.
