I read about Google.org in yesterday's Wall Street Journal about company's plan for a massive corporate giving program. Google will focus on global poverty and energy and the enviroment. The company is funding the project with 1% of its annual profit. According to the article, the stock portion amounts to about $920 million in market value. Although they have yet to hire an ED and are still setting up management/governance for the organization, they've already funded some projects, including $2 million to the One Laptop Per Child nonprofit (not sure if that is MIT Media Lab or the nonprofit that has been set up)
