A Quick Question and A Quick Answer From Qik
I am bringing my Nokia N95 with me on my trip to Australia and hope to use during my workshop. I had a question
Can I purchase an Aussie Sim card, insert into my US Nokia N95, and live stream QIK from Australia (and post photos to Flickr, etc)
The answer came from QIK -- (impressive listening skills) and is yes, but I can't use the 3G.
My next set of questions:
- If I can't use G3, does that mean the data access is slower? What will the performance issues be? Or does it mean I can only stream with wifi?
- Where is the best place to purchase an Aussie sim card upon my arrival in Brisbane on Sunday, May 18th?
- What are my options? I want to get phone and data access for that week. What is the best deal? How much will it cost?
- Do I need to do anything to my phone besides pop in the sim card for it to work? When I get back to US and put my original US sim card back it, will things get screwed up?
Q: If I can't use 3G, does that mean the data access is slower? What will the performance issues be? Or does it mean I can only stream with wifi?
A: The data access will be slower without 3G. From a Qik standpoint what that means is that when you stream - you'll see a delay getting built up that will show up on your phone. Then when you stop streaming - make sure that you wait till the delay goes back to zero to ensure that your complete stream is available. If for some reason you exit Qik - send an email to support@qik.com and we'll walk you through how you can recover the remaining part.
With WiFi - it is not a problem at all. Just stream as you would and everything should be fine.

Q: Where is the best place to purchase an Aussie sim card upon my arrival in Brisbane on Sunday, May 18th?
A: I am not sure. Any Qik user in Australia listening :). I'll try to find out from some of our users in Australia.

A: All that is required is for you to pop the Aussie SIM. No other changes will be required. Then when you are back in US - just pop in the US SIM and you should be fine.

Finally, if you run into any issue whatseover - you know how to reach me :)

either WiFi or get data plan with the Aussie SIM. Only thing is N95 US does not do 3G there - so you'll see a delay
