How to say billabong in khmer ..

Look it up in Areak Srok's Aussie Slang to Khmer Glossary

Official Khmer Dictionary Published

For the first time in 67 years, an  official Khmer dictionary, "Spelling Dictionary of the Cambodian Language," was published last week by the Institute of National Languages. The dictionary contains 41,000 words, some 20,000 more words than the last dictionary published in 1938.   I suspect the technology terms are probably not included!  So, if you want those, check out the Khmer Software Initiative Glossary.

Tharum points to some Khmer Language blog posts about this new dictionary.

Sarak and His Mommy Practice Saying the Word Thank You - Thanks To Wanna

Tonight, Sarak and I listened to podcast that Wanna created for us illustrating the correct way to pronounce the word "thank you" in Khmer.   So, we made a podcast of our practice session ....

First Khmer Language Vlog: Count to 5 in Khmer!

Cover

This is my first Khmer language vlog post (and my second vlog post all together).  Sarak and Botum can correctly count up to twenty in Khmer, but they got nervous in front of the camera.  Harry put four before three ... hence the title of the film:  4,  3 or (Buan, Bey).

Don't laugh at our accents.  We used this online guide, although if any klogger or clogger wants to post an audio file of your voice saying Khmer phrases it would help us and be most appreciated.

I used my cheap digital camera which has a video setting and movie-maker software, a free program on my computer from the evil Microsoft that doesn't let me put titles in Khmer. (I had to scan in some handwritten numbers ...)    If there was a source of podcast safe khmer music, I'd use it as background music.  That is, if I knew how to make the program do that ...

I sacrificed video quality and product effects for low-bandwidth.   The file is 810 KB -- approximately a one-minute language lesson.

Let me know what you think ....

Struggling to Learn Khmer ...

I'm not the only one struggling with learning Khmer, but it looks like Kalabird will have an immersion experience.

I got an email from Javier Sola about my keyboard issue on my laptop and hope after I've caught up, I can re-download the driver.

Dear Beth,

This is a very strange error, pointing to some possible corruption file
in your system. The message is in Catalan language and it says: error
when choosing the file, please verify that it exists. and then changes
to English to say that it has problems with file Khmeros.dll (inside the
i386 directory). I would recommend that you download the driver again,
uncompress it and try to install again.
