World Vision in Second Life

Now I have a choice between a giving a real world cow or a virtual one like the one I am sitting on a virtual representation of a cow that is in one of the gifts I can purchase from World Vision.

World Vision is  one of the world's leading relief, development and justice agencies. We are also one of the largest, presently helping more than 100 million people in nearly 100 countries in their struggle against poverty, hunger and injustice, irrespective of their religious beliefs.

The Second Life build is a virtual representation of their alternative gift catalogue  Communities in remote areas of the world request particular items, say a cow or a pig.  Via a gift to World Vision, that item is purchased for the village or family.

They're just getting started, there are chickens, sheep, and cows.  There is a chicken animation where your avatar can move around like a chicken.  Is this the future of fundraising perhaps five years down the road or just a fad?

You can to it in Second Life here.

Online education site to help end poverty... AIDtoCHILDREN.com

We support World Vision through a neat site called AIDtoCHILDREN.com.
AIDtoCHILDREN.com is a dual-purpose site for building an English
vocabulary and raising money for under privileged children in the most impoverished places around the world.

The concept is simple. You are presented with a word and must choose
another word (from four options) that best defines it. For every word you get right, you get a harder word AND money is donated to the World Vision Organization. For every word you get wrong, you get an easier word. The goal here is to learn and donate, so the user is encouraged to build vocabulary and become more successful.

Proof of our donations is accomplished via an online campaign which we have established directly with World Vision and can be seen online via the link “see where the money goes”.

We feel it is a great concept, simple and yet powerful.
