A few more examples of Widget Fundraising Campaigns

Heifer International has rolled out a fundraising widget campaign.  Here's the pitch:

Make this holiday season special by using your blog, MySpace page, or other website to make a difference for a family facing hunger and poverty. We’re calling on online community leaders like yourself to help give the ultimate gift – a brighter future and a way out of poverty and hunger.

Challenge your readers, fans, friends and family to plant the seeds of peace this holiday season by alleviating hunger and poverty. Giving to Heifer International brings peace to the world and makes a meaningful, lasting difference in the lives of families in need.

They also give some simple steps:

It’s easy and fun to invite your community to participate in a fundraising challenge. It just takes a few minutes to:

  • Create your campaign page,
  • Set a goal for how much you want to raise,
  • Copy some code from our site to yours to display a cool donation badge that shows your progress,
  • Encourage your community to pitch in on a gift that makes a real difference in the lives of families in need.

You have to register first.  Then they will provide the widget code, campaign, and strategy tips.  I didn't register so I couldn't really figure out the degree of personalization or whether you are replicating their branded materials.  It also isn't clear whether they are using a widget service like Chip In or built their own.

Congratulations on reaching your goal for your chipin fundraiser.

The Heifer campaign appears to be using a feature of GetActive to create widgets/badges similar to the ChipIn ones.

Very perceptive, Beth. Heifer'
s fundraising widget is hosted on the Get Active platform. We worked with Heifer International to explore several technological options, and Get Active was the best fit for the campaign.

We're glad you had a good experience with ChipIn. We understand that other companies are about to roll out similar offerings as well.

Exciting times!
